A couple of months into your natural hair journey your determination to stay on the path will be tested. Oh, yes it will! I still remember how I feel when my edges wouldn’t lay down. And Frankly, if I hadn't discovered the fine art of edge controlling and taming, I would have gone bonkers!

And please cupcakes, whatever you do, stay away from those commercial hair gels with harmful alcohols or mineral oil in it . They only make your hair dry and brittle, not to mention the product build up you'll acquire along the line.
Be on the lookout for these products as they will help you tame those stubborn edges from framing your face the wrong way. I adapted a few choice products from totalbeauty. It helped me, so it should help you too!
1. Organic Olive Oil Edge Control
This non-sticky, non-greasy gel-like formula adds shine and subtle hold on most hair types, but if you need it to work all day long and beyond, keep looking. It contains olive oil, aloe vera and wheat protein, which condition and strengthen the cuticle to prevent breakage. Plus it's alcohol-free, which means it won't slurp moisture from your hair.
2. Dr. Miracle's Edge Holding Gel
Dr. Miracle's clear edge gel works best on softer, natural hair types, and it's got the softest hold you can imagine that lasts for days. The faintly sweet scent could pass for "unscented" and unlike most edge control formulas, the ingredients in Dr. Miracle's gel (honey, jojoba oil, wheat protein) promote hair growth and condition.
3. Mizani Edge Taming Gel
This edge-taming formula is one of the best of the bunch. It's free of mineral oil and petrolatum, it's infused with anti-breakage ceramides, vitamin E and natural oils, and it's not water-based, so it won't alter natural hair textures. It isn't greasy, it has a faint scent and, best of all, it doesn't flake or get crunchy on any hair type.
But, It's pricey and although transparent, can leave a white residue when it dries. To prevent this, use sparingly and remove excess build-up between applications.
4. Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste
The jelly-like consistency may seem like the anti-curl tamer (i.e. a curl enhancer), but this water-based formula provides a slick, shiny hold that keeps even the most stubborn hairs in check. It doesn't flake and it smells good enough to eat! Once you tame the flyaways at your hairline, you can use any leftover product on your hands to smooth and define frizzy curls. But if you're blown out or heat styled, beware. The water-based formula will (and, I repeat, will!) revert your straightened hair to a wavier state.
5. Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel
Sweating? Wearing a hat? Running in the wind? Running through a tropical forest with only a compass and this edge-controlling product? No problem. This product is the best of the best. A few slicks of this will keep any curl from popping up. It keeps frizzies shellac smooth, conditions and soothes even the most stubborn curly hair types, and you can expect all-day hold if you have natural/unpressed hair. It doesn't clump or create build-up and washes out easily in between styling.
If only it worked on all hair types without making straight hair curly again. It might not be ideal for freshly pressed hair, but if you're ready for a wash, stick with this for a smooth finish when styling.
P. S- Please, please darlings, Do not, for the love of all things beautiful make the mistake I made of buying a curl activator instead of an edge tamer. Be sure to read the labels properly.
